Breastfeeding is one the most natural bonding experiences a mother and child can experience yet, in only one generation, with the marketing of artificial formula, breastfeeding has all but lost the support of the American culture. In response to this, I have combined efforts with a painter, Kerri Lawnsby and created a "Nursing Exhibit". The purpose in doing this is to raise awareness of breastfeeding, the importance of nursing, the normalcy of nursing, but most importantly, to honor and showcase mothers who breastfeed their children. The art is really the mechanism by which nursing will be promoted. We hope this exhibit will stimulate discussion, enlighten and showcase breastfeeding as a skill, art and commitment of human milk for human infants.
